Two transformer fires near Green Hill High School caused power outages for residents for about an hour Friday afternoon.
Mt. Juliet officials said two power pole transformers were on fire in the North Greenhill Road and Old North Greenhill Road area. The fires reportedly could be seen by students at the high school.
Some traffic signals in the area did not have power for a short time.
Mt. Juliet Fire Chief Jamie Luffman said it is unknown what caused the outages because of a lack of witnesses but said heavy rain or lightning could have triggered the power surge that caused the damage to the transformers.
Power was restored at about 12:45 p.m.
