BISHOPVILLE, Md.- A shortage in transformers has made one Worcester county family post-pone the construction of their home.
While on the property, Tom Ruch explained the vision of the long driveway, with a big house, and a pool, was slowly slipping away.
Because, getting a transformer, for the house, might take over 70 weeks.
Ruch said, "Building this big house and investing a lot of money, and we don't know if their going to have HVAC set up for it. Do we want to build a nice house, have it partially built and have it sit in the heat or sit in the cold"?
And with interest rates going up, time is of the essence for the Ruch family.
"We need a transformer and I don't know if were gonna be able to build if it keeps going up in price," says Tom Ruch.
Delmarva Power understands the wait is frustrating. And the company is doing everything they can.
Ben Armstrong, spokesperson for Delmarva Power says there is a high demand for transformers right now. He also says his company feels for its customers and they're doing everything they can.
"We are working close to with customers, were working with stake holders, were working with developers, and business owners across our service area, to keep them informed of any of the progress that we may be making to accelerate the securing of devices."
Armstrong says Delmarva Power is trying to get as many transformers as it can but supply chain issues from the pandemic have made that a challenge. Getting things like meters, transformers and other critical items, he says is taking 3 to 4 times longer.
According to Ben Armstrong, this is happening because of supply chain issues due to the pandemic.
Although Tom Ruch is anxiously waiting to build the family home, he understands the process Delmarva Power is going through.
