SWABI: Unknown thieves have stolen at least nine power transformers in different areas of Topi tehsil during the past three months and in this regard Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MPA Rangaiz Khan has also written a letter to the provincial police chief and district police officer to trace out the elements involved in these cases, sources told this correspondent here on Saturday.

The sources showed a copy of the MPA’s letter to this correspondent in which he had also expressed his concern about the police failure to trace the thieves and recover the transformers.

They said that the thieves had taken down power transformers in different areas and collected coils and oil from them, leaving the empty drums on the ground.

Quoting complaints received from the local community of Topi, Kotha and surrounding areas, the MPA stated it had been observed that nine transformers were stolen in last three months.

PTI MPA writes to IGP to trace thieves

“The local DSP and Wapda employees are aware of the situation, but not a single culprit has been arrested so far,” he said, adding the concerned DSP and executive engineer were also contacted many times, but no progress had been made.

According to the letter, 50KVA transformer each was stolen from Gandaf Lar, Batakara Lar, Tinai Lar, Tinani Wand Lar, Shagai Wand Lar and Zaku Wand Topi, and 25KVA each from Narai Lar, Tinai Lar and Dakk Wand.

MPA Rangaiz and other PTI leaders have asked the police and Pesco officials for swift action for resolution of the issue.

When contacted, a Pesco official said they had registered FIRs in each and every case against unidentified thieves and now it was the duty of police to arrest the culprits.

When contacted, Topi tehsil DSP Iftikhar Ali Khan said a total of six transformers had been stolen and the involvement of Pesco officials in these cases could not be ruled out as it was difficult for common thieves to take down transformers from poles having live transmission lines and then collect vital materials from them.
