A section of the two-lane road from Elimsport to Collomsville on Route 44 was shut down for much of Friday afternoon after the driver of the tractor-trailer seen in the background snagged a low-hanging powerline with such force that it snapped a utility pole and pulled down a transformer that landed in the middle of the road at about noon, Washington Township fire officials said. The driver, who was not injured, had to sit in his cab for about 40 minutes until a PP&L crew arrived and de-energized the powerlines that draped over the rig, according to fire officials. Once the lines were taken off the truck, the driver was allowed to go on his way. State police were investigating the mishap.
