Massive brownouts will be experienced in several areas serviced by the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, particularly in the cities of Bacolod, Silay and Talisay, today and tomorrow.

Acting Ceneco general manager Danny Pondevilla said the outages will start at 7 a.m. and will last for at least eight hours as part of their maintenance activities to ensure stability in distribution lines and avoid further serious damage that may result in major interruptions.

Pondevilla said that among the activities to be undertaken is the opening and closing of the 69-kV airbreak switch at the Talisay compound and in Purok Kasoy, Brgy. Mandalagan, Bacolod to facilitate the isolation of portions of the transmission line, and replacement of rotten poles.

He said they will also conduct preventive maintenance of 20MVA and 10MVA at the Mt. View substations, correction of a hot spot at the load side of the power transformer, and its isolation for the safety of line workers while temporary steel structure and rotten 69kV transmission poles are being replaced.

Ceneco and the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines will conduct the opening and closing of air-break switches and load transfer of the Talisay, Panaogao and Lopez substations from Bacolod-Silay 69kV TL to Silay-Cadiz 69kV TL.

Other activities will include the installation of concerted poles for mid-span, three utility steel poles for 3-span single phase primary line and installation of one 25kVa privately-owned distribution transformer and its accessories.*
